This old gal has the original helm chair and hardware on the bridge... I want to replace it with something a little more comfortable and sturdy. I can't see going with a Stidd or Pompanette too much $$$$$. But am open to other ideas. Interweb seems full of vendors, anyone have any positive experience or recommendations they would like to share? Thanks

lebroc makes chairs on par with stidd(imho),about half the price, but you are still looking about three grand.

Funny story about Lebroc, last year at the Seattle boat show, the vendor was offering 10% off the show models... I told the sales manager that I would like to buy one. I offered to pay for it right there and he said that wasn't necessary and the chair was mine when the show was over. I called the guy at least 3 times and he wouldn't return my calls I finally gave up... So I won't do business with the dealer in this area...

funny cause I was just looking at them the other day. That is why I know the prices.Found them very comfortable at a boat show, seemed to be of high quality. You can buy directly from the manuf. on their website, but the associated hardware seems to be a little confusing to the correct combinations.I would definitely call to confirm, prior to ordering to make sure I got what I want.IMHO-good luck

wow, just on website, the flexsteels look very nice! How is the durability?

About 4 years out in the weather, although covered when not in use, and it's holding up great. Ours I'd upholstered in white ultraleather and it cleans up easily with recommended 409 cleaner.

If your pedestal is sufficiently sturdy, you can conceivably just replace the "seat" part.

Our helm chairs are from Garelick and we could conceivably just re-do all the stuff that sits down onto the pedestal. In fact, I did re-do the hardware that connects seat bottom to pedestal -- with slide, lock, and rotate functions -- for not much money. The seat themselves were fine, but the original slide/rotate/lock mechanisms were heading south...

A couple other companies make similar systems, I think...

good to know, thanks. The hardware on the lebroc site was as much as the helm seat itself.

I just took ours to the guy who refurbs chairs and stuff.
Worked out what we wanted came out really well. Much cheaper.

I had a Lebroc chair put in last year. Agree, a bit pricey but a nice chair. This chair has a suspension in it. I was hoping for a little more dampening than it provides.
