Ads on TF?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I appreciate the advice, I`ll just need someone more savvy to help implement it, when they get home later today. Following Larry H`s advice, one site suggested first step was look for a recently installed program I did not install.I found and deleted one purporting to be a google game, which I removed.
Loading between threads on TF is now faster. I think, but am not certain the offending site I mentioned is not appearing. Time will tell.
I run a comprehensive AntiVirus package and do regular scans, which have been clear, but...

GET A MAC

Definitely agree. Firefox with Adblock Plus + WOT + Ghostery is very good preventive control and monitoring, could be the best.

If I understood correctly, first at all Bruce K needs curative treatments then preventive.

Are WOT and Ghostery windows things?

This Luddite is DIY at present. I installed AdblockPlus, no problem.
But safer-networking.org (see #22 from Pilou) want me to accept maps and make them my homepage as part of the download. Should I do that?
PS. Since Adblock, I`m already not getting the plethora of hooked on sites at every thread change. Woo hoo!

Scroll down then download from "Ad-free download at Safer-Networking Ltd." Never use Mirrors websites.

Thanks Pilou, that helped, install complete, but like my existing paid AntiVirus etc subscription, it found nothing, which is reassuring. I hope the 2 systems get along well. For now it looks like I`m ok. At least until the computer bursts into flames!

Obviously Pilou is very au fait with things IT. Her help will come in very handy at times I can see. I am lucky I have a son in IT. if we get stuck we call him in. He just rolls his eyes, says "let's have a look", and sorts it out in no time, often leaving us feeling a bit silly we did not see the obvious. Not as easy now he's moved out into his own unit though. Fortunately being on all Mac at home, we are still saved a lot of the malware threats. Maybe not for much longer, however. Up to now I have no trouble on TF with strange ads etc, Bruce, but I'm glad it sounds like you've got a fix already.

Merci Pierre !
I am not a professional into computers, I can only speak from my particular experience in those cases. I take the computer security of my company very seriously, our profession is regulated by strong rules from the French Ministry of Health, then we can't make any mistake.

Anyway the best antivirus package available is OURSELVES ! We must be smart, make sure our copy of windows has the latest patches, use the safest Internet browser with all the must-have adds-on and run weekly our favorite anti-virus & anti-malware & anti-spybot softwares.

Perhaps you can ask your son D..... to join the forum as a Commercial Member. They say a friend in need is a friend indeed but business is business :D

It`s possible to pick up something nasty clicking on links, we often click them on TF, trusting our anti virus systems keep us safe.
I confess. I`m a member of TF and I look at boat porn. (as to any other porn, I`m sayin nuthin.) It does seem a multitude of sites go with accessing TF threads.
In fairness, one concern I had with using an adblocker is that TF likely makes its money by ads placed. Blocking them prevents advertising reaching us, which may affect revenue. Though, the ads we see, sans adblocker (that`s one for Pilou) when logged in, are nothing to what you see not logged in. And many "guests" view TF.

No question to give revenue up.
