Anyone have any ideas on how to clean off the beard on the bow of my boat? I've used lemon juice but I'd have to get ten gallons to do the job. Like to get it clean so I can start waxing.

Any of the commercial acid based "hull cleaners" will do the job. It's not a strong acid and won't damage the boat or the environment.

Starbrite Hull Cleaner is one that I have used and it works very well.

Toilet Bowl cleaner usually does just fine.

When done, treat the hull with a polymer sealer like Rejex and you will cut down the need to do the project again; the crud which does manage to stick (and much less of it will, if any), can be washed off with a hose and perhaps, if it has been let go for awhile a chamois mop or very soft brush will do the job.

Marykate Hull On and Off will work as well.

I get the same thing where am. once or twice a season I get in the dinghy and go around the boat with "Starbrite instant Hull leaner". You just spray it on. 5 minutes later, its as white as can be.
