Raw water pump kit?

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to rebuild a Jabsco raw water pump on a FL120. I bought the kit thinking it would be a no brainer. Wrong. I've got the pump off the engine and the impeller side disassembled. Does the shaft have to be pressed out? If so, which direction. I put a lot of pressure from both directions with no movement to the point I was afraid I was going to break something. There is a slot fitting on the gear end of the shaft, does it get pressed out with the shaft? If not how do I get it off? Please help.

I`m no help with your query, but you should consider replacing the Jabsco with the American Diesel modified pump assembly(incorporates a Johnson pump), eliminating the risk of the drive connection failing. As you have the kit, you may as well fit it, but check the drive is ok.

I'll have to replace the Jabsco shaft seal of our starboard engine. Service kit ordered recently, waiting for delivery. Your update whether shaft disassembly is as easy as described in the PDF or not would be appreciated.

In most cases it's as easy as discribed. It's easier with a press.

Be sure to put the seals back in facing the correct way. And lightly lube everything before assembly.

HopCar, that is the pump. I tried on a press yesterday but was afraid I was doing something wrong when it didn't move. Now That I'm certain which way to press it I'll try again tonight. I'll keep everyone updated. Thanks for the help.

Finally got the raw water pump back together yesterday. Learned a few lessons along the way. #1- The shaft press out from the impeller side (put press on the impeller side and remove (exit) from the gear side. Leave bearings, etc. on the shaft of the gear side. #2- Don't remove the seal on the gear (oil) side. The rebuild kit does not include this seal. If you do follow the instructions an use a screw driver to remove this seal and then hit NAPA, etc. to for a replacement you won't find one; they no longer make them. You can however use the same seal that is used for the impeller side (shaft seal). #3- If your pump doesn't have a seal spacer, don't freak. Mine didn't; I spent hours looking for it thinking I dropped it somewhere. Some pumps have them, some don't. #4- When you press the shaft back in, just gently press it till it stops. There is no measuring involved. Oh yea, when reinstalling the shaft, stop when the shaft just starts to appear in the drip opening in the middle of the housing. This is when you insert the slinger washer for the shaft to slid through. Good luck, hope this helps.

you posted a message some time ago about rebuilding a Jabsco 5850 pump. I see that you were successful and I am having similar problems. I have pressed the shaft out by pushing on the impeller end. However, I can't figure out which way to press the seals out. Do you remember if you pressed them out the same way or not? I gather there are 2 seals - I feel the need to replace them both
