All I know is a local fisherman was having coffee at the Marina Cafe this morning in Port Townsend. He shows us the photo on his phone that his friend sent him. Told him it happened Tuesday out on Hood Canal.
For those unfamiliar with Puget Sound, Hood Canal is a long, Fjord-like inlet on the western part of the sound. Nuclear sub sightings are not uncommon, as the Bangor sub base is maybe 15 miles down. And, of course, the navy base at Bremerton is nearby, too.
In the late 80's a nuclear sub ended up sand bar off the beach from Fox Island in South Puget Sound. Had to pretty embarrassing for the skipper as the crowd grew waiting for the tug boat. The local news had a field day.

Spy, was it a Virginia Class sub? They are designed to accept special interchangeable modules and for littoral operations.
