Just wanted to introduce myself. I recently moved to Wilmington although my boat is stored for winter up in NH. I was a liveaboard in Great Bay for a few months before I took a job down here. Put the boat on stands, packed up, and headed south in an 84' Chevy military truck.

If anyone is in the Wilmington area living or stopping in, give me a shout if you need an extra set of hands working on something. Never have to twist my arm to burn a little diesel fuel and beer.

Thanks

Pretty decent looking old boat, not so good looking cap'n!

More boaty pics please, and throw a few in of the truck,if you don't mind. :thumb:

Not "wearing" a life jacket but I always carry a PFD in the dinghy. I only wear it crossing the channel or when the water gets rough. I think that is probably the most ignorant statement I've made to this day! :)

Youth is wasted on the young but I'm an old man trapped in a boys body. Not a bad deal if you ask me. I don't know what a "TF" is so you will have to spell out that acronym for me.

As requested, some random photos of the ol' Misfit Toy and the 84' Cuck Vee

SWEET! Thanks for the pics. Nice rides.I'm digging the layout of your boat.Is the box body on your truck military issue?

I like the layout too, only a handful of changes I want to make other than some general sprucing up with new materials. I think replacing the 'wall to wall' carpeting would be a 100% improvement. Most of my time has been mechanical/electrical repairs along with fixing above the water line leaks :)

The CUCV trucks came in a few different variants. Blazer, pickup, dually (holds a shelter in the bed), service box, and ambulance versions. This one came with a PTO 12k watt generator, air compressor, and 200amp stick welder. I got rid of the stick welder because it weighed too much and would never be used.

It climbed Mt. Washington

12k watts is slightly overkill to brew a cup of coffee

Nice rides! Glad to see your not wasting your youth doing something stupid like working indoors all day. You've got the right idea. I expect we'll be seeing you in a bigger yacht and fancier rides pretty soon, as there's lots of cougars and trust fund babes lurking in all those waterfront condos surrounding marinas. A young guy with skills and toys with time on their hands is always in demand. Just know how to make a good Martini and take your vitamins and your set! Just buy a really nice watch-that's the shiny bait they're attracted to, that reels them into the boat. They might need reading glasses to see across the table, but they can spot a nice watch (and tell you it's current value) from 100' away! lol Just be aware-you might think your the hunter, when it's really you being hunted. :>)

Wecome aboard! Nice, clean boat. Good luck with the anchor and don't let these heathens talk you into posting pictures!

Sam Adams and burgers, best pic of the bunch.

From one transplant (and newcomer to this forum) to another, welcome down!

Don't suppose you're also on Steel Soldiers as well?

All good shananigans end with a photo opportunity. I will be sure to post any up since I have no shame.

I couldn't mix a Martini if I tried. You see my galley is burgers and Sam Adams...I'm a good ol' boy. I do like the watch idea. I will have to get a shiny watch and do some land trawling...again, I'll post up any results :)

I'm on the Steel Soldiers site as well. Do you own a military vehicle?

Welcome aboard. Great looking boat. TF= Trawler Forum.

Greetings,
Mr. S. Anybody that uses the word shenanigans is OK in my book. By the way, TF are the last two initials of my name. R being the first as opposed to the 18th as in the alphabet.

Thanks for all the welcome. Didn't pick up on TF being Trawler Forum. With the statement phrasing, it sounded like something you catch either through physical or fluid contact.

Personal definitions of the word shenanigans

-doing things in life just for the hell of it
-out terrorizing in a dinghy
-something performed under the influence of a beer or two
-maintaining an irresponsible yet legal status in life

Very nice lookin' Mainship I, Skinny! We had a Mainship III, and still think of it as a very nice boat.

I would change to a circular staircase to the flying bridge... but then I'm likely considerably older and more rickety than you :)

Why yes, I own an M880 and an M35a2 (currently for sale so that I can finance a trawler myself [hint! hint!]).

Welcome to the Forum. My brother-in-law and his wife (my sister, of course) have a Mainship 40 at Wilmington and tell me that it is a great area for boating. They are right on the ICW at Carolina Beach, but keep their trawler in a marina. The name of their boat is Harmony, so holler at them if you you see them. :)

I have yet to gracefully move up and down the flybridge ladder on the Mainship. I am going to placard the underside of the flybridge that says "smash skull here"

Those are some good lookin' MV's. Although I'm not a big fan of the 318, fulltime AWD, unit bearing axle Dodge, they are a nice looking truck. The M35 speaks for itself...and it's a convertible!

What type of trawler are you looking at? You're about 3 hours from me, planning on moving towards the coast?

If I spot Harmony, I'll give them a shout. My opening line will be, "jwnall told me to help myself to the beer in the fridge". :)

Well, there's a GB 36 woody in your neck of the woods that I am VERY interested in, although I'm not sure I know enough about a wood hull to do what needs to be done. The price is right though!

While not exactly trawlers per se, here are a couple others that we've currently got our eyes on:

McCotters Marina (Washington, NC)

I like the 34' Hatteras although no information on the engines along with topside only photos scares me at that price point. I personally would stick to fiberglass as I like to keep my enjoy/work meter more towards the enjoy side of the scale. I'm probably two hours away but if you need a second set of eyes, give me a shout.

Welcome aboard

I have a smash skull place

and a bump forehead spot on my boat
