Hi to everybody.
Hope this forum is not governmental, and there will be no economical sanctions on the new members from Russia. :roll eyes:

Name is Boris,
Boat is of a rare kind, as I believe less than a dozen were built - some in India, and some in Singapore in the beginning of 80-ies.
Rumors say the manufacturer was somehow connected, at least design-wise to Grand Banks, but the boats look different.
The name of the brand is Aquila Boats, although the official registered name of the manufacturer in India is Gladstone Lyall & Co. (bankrupt now for a long time)
Anyway, just bought this beauty from her second German owner who explored almost all North sea and Baltics in his 15 years of ownership. Fixing the small things which need attention after spending last couple of years on the dry hoping to take her down to Mediterranean either by sea or by French channels.
Sorry in advance if I have too much questions as a beginner.

Welcome Boris. An Aquila has been listed for sale online in Queensland Australia for some time. The advert claims GB links, same factory built I think. A side photo of your boat would show the unusual design better.

Yes - as Bruce stated, there are a few Aquila's floating around Australia. I looked at one in Adelaide that was for sale a few years ago; a 34 foot I think it was. The dealer was telling me it was made by GB as well.
They seemed to pack a lot of boat into a 34 foot hull.

It was a bad joke on the sanctions I guess? Anyway, if it does matter anything - I haven't been to Crimea or went out to support Russian government sending troops there. And not knowing the truth (and I strongly believe we know nothing for real) one can't really judge. Or take offense for that matter. Specially since I'm not Russian.

Anyway, back to the boat:
Indeed, I believe most of these were sold to Australia, and a very few to Europe.
Engine wise she's very basic and economical: 2 units of Vetus 4.21 (it's a non-turbo 52-hp Peugeot unit) on velvets.
1,600 liters of fuel.
Electronics are the same as the electrons run in the same direction everywhere, be it India, US or Europe. Quite old and outdated though, so will need a replacement over the time.

My cruising area will be Mediterranean and not Russia - there's not much point in keeping the boat here as due to climate she can only be used 5 months a year, and mainly on inland waters with not much point of interest to sail to.

She was bought in Germany, stays there at the moment for repairs, and then from there goes down south into the Med, most probably via France rather than by sea.

Diesel costs EUR 1,3 in Germany (about USD 1,75) per liter,
Russia is significantly cheaper - about USD 0,95.

I REALLY LIKE the two small diesels. There was a GB 36 a few years back on Yacht World that had two 55hp Yanmars. Twin screw and small engines seems perfect to me.
The fly bridge is perfection also.

Indeed. This boat just bought me with her layout and range. Standing headroom throughout doesn't come often in this size, and the owners cabin with a 3rd bunk ( you don't see this on Singapore built examples in Australia). And then twin screws taking 12-14 liters at 7-8 knots and the tanks capacity of 1,600 liters. Rear cockpit is a nice feature as well, especially in the med where she will be spending most of her life with us. An extremely nice feature for socializing on stern-to moorings, which are pretty standard there.
Still trying to realize the level of happiness into my first week of ownership, ha-ha.

Let's get this out of the way now. Your anchor is too small, it's the wrong kind and you don't have enough chain. Never ask an anchor question here! The thread will never end!

Agree, the one you see hanging from the boat is apparently small, but I have 2 more on board so let's consider my personal anchor thread being closed without opening.
Let's talk about dinghies or navigation instead!

For some reason dinghies and navigation don't inspire the passion that anchors do.
The other taboo subject is guns. Your gun is too small, it's the wrong kind and you don't have enough ammunition. This may be just a US issue.

Purely a US issue, as we don't carry any guns.

Hi Boris, great to see your post. I am looking at the one in Australia currently. Have you heard how they are in rough seas. The fit-out is great. I have not seen another boat with the same layout. Finish is also excellent.
Two engines may let you limp home if one stops.

Yep, two engines do provide some safety, however I'm not sure what's best overall. Seems to me that autonomy with a single screw would be better.
Rough seas I haven't tried yet - only a short river Elbe trip after picking her up. 1 meter waves from the container ships rushing down the river to the port of Hamburg at 15 knots she doesn't really feel.
Previous owner swared of force 7 with ease, and judging by the construction and weight I tend to believe. She's constructed really heavily, I wouldn't hesitate to go out in almost any weather.

Hi! Yes. We've already found a bigger boat to replace our trawler.
The trawler is at Tomas Maestre now (Murcia), just been cleaned, antifouled, and serviced last month as we closed the season. Let me know if you want to come and see, I got friends living there on their boat - they will be able to show you the boat. If interested after the visit (and you should be) - I'll fly in for the sea trial and inspection.

very handsome lines on your boat and especially like the two-tone blue paint scheme with matching fenders. Sorry if i missed it but did you say what is the overall length?
Note in the US, some people associate "Aquila" with a power catamaran style boat...
