1st time past the Mystic Highway bridge for this remaing whaling boat since 1941 so the legend says.
It was towed out of it's berth at Mystic Seaport to New London saturday morning where it will get fitted with ballast. Also for crew training.
Then it goes on a multi port tour before returning to Mystic in August.
There were thousands in various places along the river watching. I felt bad for any vehicles waiting to drive over the bridge...it was open for almost an hour as the Morgan and others following went thru. It took a lot of manoevering to make the subtle turns to get the Morgan thru both the highway bridge and the train swivel bridge.
We are in the dinghy in the foreground of the last pic.

Toured her several years ago and was greatly impressed with how well preserved she was and what her occupants had to go through to earn a living. Tough, tough people. Thanks for posting.

I was pleasantly surprised to see her captained by Kip Files, one of the tall ship captains I served. He was also my teacher in high school for seamanship 1 and 2. Way to go Kipper! Btw he is also an owner of the Victory Chimes.
