I need to recaulk the flybridge cowling. Someone went nuts with the Sikaflex and I need to tidy it up. Any good ideas on how to remove this without damaging the Gelcoat?

Well it's not easy. I have been doing some of this as well. One thing I found useful was the set of nonmarring scapers I picked up at Harborfreight tools.

4 Piece Nonmarring Scraper Set

Sikaflex, the company motto, 'The best of times, the worst of times'.

I live in fear of black Sika!

Good luck.

Dosn't it squirm around a bit and disappear like 5200 when a little heat is applied?

Good ideas...so a little heat...not as much as removing old cetol from teak. Hmm. I'll try a small spot later. Also good idea on the scrapper. I've found, much to my disappointment that Gelcoat is easily scratched and gouged.

A Fein Multimaster or other vibrating clone with a scraper blade.

Cut a vee out to relieve the tension. Peels pretty good from there.

Works on 3M 5200 as well.

I've sometimes used a chisel, CAREFULLY, to cut caulking away.
