Saloon floor - removal of sticky marks

The three mats on my saloon floor have a rubbery finish underneath to stop them sliding around. Caribbean heat and the passage of time have altered the rubbery stuff and it has stuck to the floor in places. I want to remove these lumps without damaging the varnished surface - any ideas?

BTW: The two pics, with and without mat, are the same piece of floor and taken about a minute apart. I have no idea why the second pic looks so discolored.

Eucalyptus oil, if you can get it. Great for removing adhesive sticker residues.
There is a medical product to ease removing surgical adhesive bandaging, we used it on a boat registration sticker.
I have a mouse pad which does that on a french-polished desk, comes off with a fingernail.

Sometimes the sticky side of duck tape dabbed on and quickly removed will lift stuff like that a little at a time. No risk of smearing. When it works it works well.

A product called "Goo Gone" is a citric acid solvent for adhesive removal. It will clean the glue residue left from peeling off old stickers and so forth.

Thanks to all. I'll try the WD-40 first 'coz I have that on board.

BTW: this stuff was relatively soft and supple when the mats were new but the bits stuck to the floor are hard and resist scraping.

WD-40 would not be my first choice. "Goo Gone" as mentioned above and "Goof Off" are better suited to this application. Best to try anything you plan on using in an inconspicuous area first to see if it causes any damage to the floor or finish.

I finally found something that worked. Remember the Scunsi Steamer once advertised on Saturday afternoon TV? Well, I am one of the three people who bought one. A jet of steam softens the carpet gunk just enough to allow removal with a plastic scraper, then it hardens up again.
