Saturday was the annual "Opening Day" of the boating season in Seattle. begins with crew races-U of Washington is the best crew in the country right now followed by a boat parade. We were tied up to along boom along the course. Here are a few pics of some of the boats. The first one, with the big pineapples I think is our own Pau Hana!

Does the second one qualify as a trawler?

Indeed! It was a lot of fun (and some crazy long hours in prep time!) but so worth it- we won 2nd place in our division!

Thanks!

We celebrated in Portland, too. The theme was Portland's Party. So we went with Roses and Beer!

Last week end was a great day for opening day, as most weeks end are still cloudy, cool and drizzle. When we moored on Lake Union we several times anchored out allowing the parade rout behind Husky Stadium. usually Thursday not to get a decent spot or for sure Friday noon. Seattle Yacht club hosts the event with other local clubs assisting. Yacht clubs decorate one boat for the theme to compete.

Boats have to European anchor where you drop a stern anchor first, pull a head as far as you dare to shore, drop the bow anchor and tighten up between the two. Our Anchor dragged and we had to be towed off the marsh, by the Seattle Police Boat. Its quite common that boats drag anchor in that area and have to be towed off. Having sea strainers on the engine intakes as a requirement as you suck up all sort of junk.

That is one event you should go to if you own a boat in the Seattle Area.
