I served on a steamship certainly one of the last in the Us military fleet. It was the USCGC Bibb a 327' high endurance cutter. my time was 1978-1980. It was decommissioned in the early 80's I believe. Now it is a "Dive site Reef" in John Pennycamp park in the Fl keys (along with her sistership the "Duane").
She beat her original builders speed trials when she was 40 plus years old. A converted Navy DE that was donated (read- don't want) to the coast guard.
