1980 Grand Banks

I am trying to restore a 1980 Grand Banks 42 Europa. I need the ff:

Complete electrical diagram of the yacht
Repair and parts Manual of the 6 Cyl ford Lehman marine engine
One brand new or rebuilt Onan generator with complete accessories
Boat sn #0015 Singapore

Can someone help me on this one?

Just curious, does GB keep archives of the boats it has built? Hatteras keeps everything on microfiche; you can get the manual and all the "as built" information plus wiring schematics for virtually every boat they have built, by your specific hull number.

They don't seem to, at least not for boats past a certain age. The parent company (American Marine) drifted in and out of bankruptcy so many times that it would not surprise me that a lot of records simply disappeared. When members of the GB forum have said they've asked for information about their (older) boats, they have said that while GB is polite in their reply the company has little or no information for them.

They had enough information to write the history section on their website (for example, that the first fiberglass GB36 was hull 360) but with regards to specific information on specific older boats they do not seem to have it.

We are lucky in that all the previous owners of our boat kept all the original manuals intact. So we have everything that would have come with the boat when it was new---- operations, wiring schematics, engine books, etc. And a lot of this is available on the GB owners site, too, in the "manuals" section where members have loaded the info from their own boats.

Thanks Marin. I think it is fairly unique to Hatteras. Even through 5 ownerships they have maintained that part of their culture. While you are always dealing with the "enhancements" of prior owners (and yourself!), having the detailed wiring diagrams, systems drawings and manuals is a god send.

Here is something I just learned about this morning on the GB owners forum. Grand Banks has a section on their website with the specs and information about the so-called legacy models, the ones no longer in production. These contain deck plans, wiring diagrams, all sorts of stuff. The list is at Grand Banks Yachts - Retired Models

If you select a model you can download a zip file to your computer with all these drawings and specifications. They unzip into a PDF whcih contains the individual files. In my case I loaded it into Good Reader on this iPad so I can open the files.

If a file says "Revised" it apparently refers to a later version of the GB model. For example, this would be the Gb36s and 42s that were made after the molds and the boats were changed in 1988.

But at first glance it could be a useful resource for a GB owner. Unfortunately some of the files require a CAD application to open (.DWF). But most of them do not.

Welcome aboard. The Lehman manual most likely can be ordered from American Diesel.804-435-3107. Brian is the guru on Lehmans.

As mentioned above, for all help on Lehmans, call American Diesel. They are the go to guys for Lehman parts/supplies and the help/advice you get from Brian is second to none. They wrote the book on the marinized Lehman.
