Bluewater #1

Hello, I have owned my Bluwater 40 since 2012 and allways suspected it was a very early version,she has a launch date of March 1971.There is no hull # stamped in the hull as confirmed by two surveys.
I have been on board a few other Bluwaters over the years and looked at every one that was ever on the internet but I have never seen one with my unique floor plan.Full walk around decks,longer aft deck,shorter wheel house,and several other subtle and not so subtle differences. Recently I found some drawings on board that I had not seen before, they were mixed in with some other boat docs.These drawings were my floor plan exactly and one of them had a notation that read No.1 for Mr.and Mrs D. J. Mezzetta.That name rang a bell so I pulled out the title search paperwork from my purchase and found that Dannial J Mozzetta was the first owner of the boat,he owned until 1983 and it has had four owners total.I remembered reading the history of the Bluewater on this site some years ago but I had to re read it the other day to confirm that indeed Daniel Mozzetta was the San Francisco food importer that ordered and owned my boat.Mozzetta named the boat Bluewater and it kept that name until 2002 when the previous owner to me renamed it Shenanigan. If anyone is interested I will try to attach pics.

I will echo Comodave and welcome you aboard (all though I am newly aboard myself). Thank you for sharing! You own a beautiful little ship. I have long loved the Bluewater 40's. Yours has to have some of the best lines of any I have seen. You can tell by the pics she is well loved, as she should be!

Did you move the mast further astern? Also, I'm curious what engine you have. Based on the drawings it looks like a single.

That's very cool that you were able to trace your boats lineage as you did. Very interesting indeed. We looked seriously at a Ta Chiao 42, which has the same lines as a bluewater 40. I really like your walk around decks, larger cockpit and longer foredeck area that the #1 has. I wish there were more of that design available on the used market. It seems you have a beautiful unicorn!

Back in the day there was no standard for HIN’s. There is today. Your state has probably issued you an updated HIN. I would recommend that you get the new issued HIN stamped out and attached to the starboard transom. This will save you a massive headache some day.

Thanks for your interest, yes she is a single it has a Detroit 6v53.I have never heard of another Bluewater with a Detroit but it has always been there.The mast had been moved sometime before, but done very poorly.I reinstalled it with a proper base and added the boom and heavy enough rigging to handle the dinghy.

Interesting boat. Full walk-around decks is a feature that would be handy to have.

Do you have a pic of the Ta Chiao 42?When I look I can't find anything with the pilot house.Is it similar to the Tayana pilot house trawler? I know there very few .

Thanks for the pics! Very rare to see three staterooms in a 40' - we have 3 in our CHB 41 Trawler, along with walkaround decks, but with an aft cabin configuration. I don't think I've ever seen 3 forward staterooms in 40'. We just slept 10 + 2 greyhounds for 5 days so that third stateroom is important to us!

Where in Tacoma do you moor the boat?

Where did it come from and previous boat name. I was in contact with many Tayana and C&C owners many years back.

This summer I have been running around the south sound, Blake island, I still want to head over to Port Townsend. The boat has had Four owner, including myself. The last owner was Bill Stults he lives in Port Orchard and made many improvements to the Boat. As for the Name it is the original name the first owner was I believe from Scotland there is an Island Skye there hence the name, i like the name so I am just leaving it be.

PS I just stumbled upon another 10 of 42 named Hay Jen in Breakwater Marina I’m trying to get a conversation going with its owner

The name Bill Stults sounds familiar. I met a lot of Tayana and Bluewater owners after I bought Sandpiper in 2000. The Tayana, C&C and Bluewater owners were a tighter group then and we explored each others boats and exchanged information even though there were no organized rendezvous.

OK, I know which Tayan you own. Tried to get Bill to Join POYC a while ago.

Getting together sounds fun but I have a big project that I start after Labor Day, replacing the rest of the styrofoam flotation under my boathouse. I also just returned from a two month cruise.

We can maybe get together towards the end of October. Or you can come to Port Orchard anytime. There is a Tayana and another Bluewater moored at the YC that I can arrange for you to see.

Keith organized a small blue water get together earlier this year. Small is the operative word. Three boats in all. I think the idea was that having it early in the year was better as people were out cruising during the summer.
That said, I’d be interested in attending a get together if it fit my schedule, but it’s almost impossible to plan ahead as my work can change with a phone call.
Just thought I’d mention, I don’t post email addresses on public forums anymore, too much risk of it getting harvested by scammers.

Well I have time 3-6 this month, I don’t know where your boat is, I’m in Seattle, maybe anyone interested could meet in paulsbo, just an idea, what do you think?

I’m down in Olympia, so making Poulsbo takes the better part of a day. Add very busy work/family schedule and any get together during peak season seems unlikely for me.
