Yes, we have a year round slip in Marina La Paz. We will be based in the Sea of Cortez for the next couple of years at least. After that who knows... One adventure at a time.
If... If you have any plans for staying in a slip my advice is to reserve one now. You will pay a small deposit and be guaranteed your slip when you arrive. If you are late they will hold your slip as long as you have arranged payment from your original arrival date.
It has been unusually cold this last week. Some days only made it to 70 or so an the lows have been in the 50's. Right now the water is a bit cold for snorkeling at least for us at 68. For the next few days we are expecting highs in the high 70's and lows in the 50's.

Is that Marina de la Paz, or Marina Cotez La Paz? Both come up. Oh, and I deleted the WX info you posted . . . .as it just PISSED ME OFF!

Marina La Paz is the best by far. Very cruiser friendly

I just sent in a reservation request. Rates are $$$$! Our boat is 57' overall, so I had to go with a 60' slip for $1,639 usd plus electric. Ouch! We'll probably stay for a month or so, than cancel our reservation as soon as we begin cruising, as we don't plan on being marina bound for the time we're in SOC, and it doesn't make sense to keep paying for an empty slip while we're away, and we don't plan on leaving the boat there by itself either.

WOW! That seems pretty steep; but it does include water and 19% tax. I checked their rate card to see if this was transient or monthly and it is indeed the monthly rate. (Rate card is HERE. I see a 40-foot slip is $900/mo for their monthly rate which is slightly higher than Chula Vista in the San Diego area. At Cruiseport in Ensenada, it's around $450 (incl tax). I believe Marina Coral, the preferred gringo marina connected to a full service hotel just north of Ensenada is around $500 (incl tax).
I guess that means there is slip availability though. Anyone have any sense whether the rates skyrocketed due to Covid transplants, or were the slip fees always high? When we finally head south, we're still uncertain about whether we'll spend the winter in SoC, or just head south - Mazatlan has piqued our curiosity as a good place to stay for a couple months, perhaps fly home to Florida. Rate card for Marina Mazatlan HERE. For Weebes, works out to $650/mo ($775 with IVA - 60-foot slip for Slowgoesit would be around $1300/mo incl tax).

Isla SF is one of my favorite spots. Regarding slip fees, I have been in Marina de la Paz for about 10 years. Covid has dramatically changed things. It seems that many of the american fishermen brought their boats back up from central america during covid and got as far as Cabo and La Paz. Suddenly there is a high demand for slips and rates rise.
Rates have gone up twice in the last year at Marina de la Paz. Last year I paid $1600USD in La Cruz and in Barra de Navidad, so I expect those prices to make their way to La Paz. I was just moved to a larger slip and the cost is $1399.
I know that boating is a rich man's game now, and I'm not rich. My boat is going on the market any day now. Anybody interested in a Californian 52 CPMY fully rigged for cruising? IT COMES WITH A SLIP!!!

I agree with this sentiment generally. I do not blame the marina operators, it is just a mismatch between supply and demand for moorage and they have very good pricing power. I will leave the Sea of Cortez early for this reason. I have an 80 foot slip in Puget Sound that will hold the cat and the cost is less than half of La Paz. Let that sink in a minute. Puget Sound half as expensive as La Paz. That is a clear market signal which I will obey.

There is a new marina being built in Whangarei, New Zealand. These comments in regard to the expected future demand:
“Because we do focus on a lot of international visiting boats coming here, I just heard from a marina manager in Mexico who said it’s absolutely crazy the number of boats that are on their way next season to come over here.
“There are 50 boats just sitting there, anchored because they can’t get into the marinas there, that are wanting to cross the Pacific. Maybe due to Covid as well, people just want to get out there,” Beck said

My thought is that the marinas in La Paz are full at the current slip rates.
I am paying around $1200 plus $50 for a parking space + electricity.
Yes it's a lot but again the marina is full.
I really like the marina, the owner, and the people that work there. They really try to cater to their slipholders.
In Ensenada at Marina Coral the price was around $900 and the services were the same. But... The marina was not full.

In reality the slip fees are about the same as San Diego. Like San Diego the marinas are private, and they offer equal or better services as well as welcoming liveaboards.
But... There are hundreds of boats at anchor in La Paz channel at any given time.

I just got word back, Marina De La Paz is full for Nov-May time frame for 55 to 70' slips. Also have a feeler in to Marina Cortez in La Paz, they say they're checking on availability. We're fine with anchoring out if need be. Just need to find access to a dingy dock for shore trips!

I would quickly run down the whole list if you are serious.
Marina Costa Baja, Marina Palmar, Marina Fonatur, Marina Don Jose, perhaps others.
Likely you will hear the same but best to check early.
The anchorage at La Paz can get full too and this is one of the few anchorages in the Sea of Cortez with access to any serious amenities. San Carlos Bay on the mainland side comes to mind but not much else. There are not that many towns in the Sea and many of them just have roadsteads and no real protection. Many good anchorages around but most with no town.
Totally unlike the PNW and inside.

What is your boat length??? We are 51' and they let us in a 50' slip.
Also continue to check back. Peiople leave and they do not tell the marina office their plans in advance

We're trying other locations, but feel pretty comfortable on the hook. That's why
we've outfitted the boat the way we have. If we anchor out, we just need a place to tie the dingy. Are there any places where you can pay a monthly fee for dingy space?
