Maybe follow the hose from the tank, or open the fitting and take a sniff…

Depending on build date probably not built with a tank, this is good advice.
Yep, your deck fittings will either smell like a toilet, fuel or nothing (water)

Just checked yesterday, I was in error. It's Port side midship and it has a new deck fitting made of SS instead of bronze. Waste tank is port side, engine room aft.
