Today had a decent cruise from Half Moon Bay Marina to Kingston NY at the Kingston City Marina.
A couple weeks ago we were stoked about backing into our first slip, we aborted our first attempt at leaving our slip due to the tide and current and wind pushing our bow down the fairway in the wrong direction and not being able to use rudder until we cleared the slip. We slid back into our slip regrouped waited for the boat opposite us to leave and got underway without worry.

Charlie
Don't ever feel bad about aborting and regrouping for another attemp..
It frequently is a very good decision and beats getting frustrated and fighting a losing proposition.
Abort & regroup is our default plan B when things are not going well.

Don, I didn’t feel at all bad. Our main goal is no one gets hurt and we do no damage. I could tell the cross slip boat was getting ready to leave so I just went and talked to him to confirm he was leaving soon. It was only 10 minutes after I talked to him that he departed. I also watched him have to abort due to them forgetting a bow line. I was jealous of his bow thruster though.

Agree 100%. In fact one of the biggest mistakes I've seen is when someone gets in trouble they think the best solution is more throttle to get the boat to move where they want it to. That doesn't usually end well. T

Thanks for the pics Charlie, good memories. West Point is amazing from the water especially when a local schooled me about why it is located where it is.

The picture with the ship in the fog scared the poop out of us. We didn’t know it was loading we just were coming around the bend and saw that huge bow pointing towards us. Immediately turned to port and throttled up. Then we realized they were moored and actively unloading. We were using our horn and listening for others.

When my bow gets blown in the wrong direction I let it go and then use reverse to back out of the situation.

It looks stupid but it works.
