I've been looking at the Sailrite project How to make Magnetic Window Shades and it looks very simple and has the advantage that I wouldn't have to drill holes to mount snaps. We have just had the boat Awlgripped and I am worried about the adhesive snaps on the new finish. The boat has never had shades, so no mounting was ever in place.

I was wondering if the magnets would interfere with the navigation systems in the pilot house. Does anyone have experience with these?

RVs have a system where the magnets are on the inside of the glass . Nothing on paint.

Sailrire articles even mentions an RV

Seem to have a good following.

As long as the magnets are not located next to your autopilot’s compass you will be fine. All other navigation is usually derived from GPS.
