Greetings all,

We are post-survey (so clean!) and within days of finalizing the deal/taking possession of our first trawler, a 1984 46’ CHB Aft Cabin. Suffice it to say we are excited!

While we both have a fair bit of experience on the water, we are new to this size vessel and all of the intricacies that go along with it. I’ve tried searching the forum a bit and I’m coming up empty - anyone have recommendations or favorite books/resources for maintenance and DIY? Thank you in advance and looking forward to being a part of this community!

Holly

Welcome aboard. Congrats on your new boat. Nigel Caulder has written several books on boat maintenance.

To Holly & Mike both... welcome aboard TF.
I'll second the recommendations above. I am sure that if you don't have any current issues with your head at some point along the way you will have questions / issues that Peggie can assist with.
Calder is a classic resource as well.
Best of luck with the "new" vessel.

Welcome Holly,

Congrats on your new big beauty! She is a looker! It is a thrill when the survey comes back clean! What will you christen her?

New to trawlers

Hi everyone I'm new to this forum and new to trawlers I currently travel the Great loop in a 1979 silver 34C which I'm now going to sell because I just picked up a 1977 Marine trader 34 ft I take delivery of it Saturday and I would bring it back to my HomePort and start the updating process any advice for a new trailer newbie?

One thing I noticed is that it has a mast more toward the back than the front is that still used for sailing? Beam sailing? Or is it just to pull my dinghy out the water I'm open for comments, suggestions, recommendations whatever you decide to throw into this would be great it is my first trawler it needs work but I'm happy I got it as powertrain is perfect it's just ugly but does have all the original beautiful woodwork

Mast on a 34 Marine Trader is more for decoration than hoisting or sailing. Cute though.
