1989 bayliner cierra 2455 (modified to pilothouse)
Hey there, new to this forum, new to owning a boat. My name is Matt, I'm a welder and so builder by trade. I recently acquired this 89 bayliner cierra 2450, that's been modified. A lot!!! I would love advice and opinions. No plans on going in the ocean, so skip those comments please. Just the giant bay and river here. Thanks for the wealth of info, and stay safe out there everyone. ?

Welcome aboard!

Thank you

Welcome aboard hope the boat works out for you.

The Bayliner 2450 was my first boat larger than a ski boat. People poke at them but for me it was actually a very good boat for our needs at the time (gunkholing around protected waters in Lake Superior on overnighters with my wife and two wee ones and occasional guests), never had a single issue with it once I propped it correctly, once out of the hole I would throttle back to just at planing speed and would run for miles and miles.

I can't say I love the aesthetics of your custom pilothouse on top there, but I will say that it would have been a comfy addition for our weather there. We never took any of our clear curtains off the entire time I owned her.

Looks like the PO did a nice job on the mod. My only concern would be the weight of the mod and effects on stability. Other boats that I have seen with similar mods were built with wood and really top heavy. Even though you’re inland there are boat wakes and wind to deal with. Evaluate on a test run.

Will do. Thanks! Cutting the aft cabin up, replacing the fuel tank now...
