1972 Grand Banks 32 Classic

We are looking to move up to a larger trawler and have put our 32 GB for sale, located on the York River in VA. 1972 is the last (full) year GB made wood boats. Knowing many boats do not live up to the photos, I can honestly say this is a beautiful wood boat. I bought it 6 years ago after it received extensive work at De'Rouville's wood boat shop in Bayville NJ, including a totally rebuilt fly bridge and portions of the cabin and then all of those areas have been fiber glassed. The salon wood windows have been replaced with aluminum sliders. The rear deck was also rebuilt and replaced with a fiberglass deck and at that time both fuel tanks were replaced with new aluminum tanks. Water and sanitation tanks (and all sanitation hoses) were both replaced (plastic) in 2018 along with a new quiet vaccu-flush toilet installed. New AC was installed in 2017 as well. All new heat exchanger, oil cooler and transmission cooler and valve adjustment in 2020. This is a beautiful boat that will not disappoint. All new extensive Navy canvas was installed in 2017. Thank you Charlie! She really is a beautiful boat. I hate to sell her but we also really want something bigger. I forgot to mention that all of the teak decks were reefed and re-caulked in 2015 so realistically those decks are good for the rest of the time anyone would own the boat. If someone is really interested, DeRouville's Boat Shop on the Toms river can verify all the extensive work that was done on her.

I also put a new refrigerator in the galley in 2018 but I wanted to retain the look of the original teak door so the new Refer is behind the varnished teak door.

We're seriously shopping for a larger boat and would entertain any reasonable offer. I know you're not supposed to get attached to theses boats but I'd honestly be mostly interested in just making sure she goes to a good owner that would truly enjoy her classic beauty and keep her under cover like we have.

Beautiful boat! What engine is in it and how many hours?

Engine is the Ford Lehman 120. Hours are approximately 4000. The hour meter was not functional when I bought the boat. The engine runs strong and has been serviced regularly and holds 60 lbs of oil pressure.

Just love it, the hull looks like glass althought I know it is wood. You should post this on www.offcenterharbor.com, one of my favorite websites. The folks in Maine and those in general who subscribe to this Brooklin Boatyard based website love wood boats. Can you posts more pictures of the salon and engine room etc?

We do. The paint and varnish stay in phenomenal condition for a wood boat if they’re stored under cover. And we use it a lot from May to Oct here in VA but that’s mostly weekends so all the other days she’s out from under the hot sun. But then I’d keep a fiberglass boat under cover too… I think the sun is even harder on them.

We're looking for a 36 or 42 GB in "very nice" shape so if anyone has one for sale and would like a pristine 32 in partial trade, we're cash buyers for the balance. A Europa or Motor Yacht model would be our preference but would entertain any 36 or 42 model that was in excellent shape.
