Hi putting together a reco 120 hp ford but missing the dip stick.
Any idea where I can obtain one
The motor has been fully marinised

Don't forget that it is a FORD Leyman. Many Ford vehicle and tractor parts fit and, since they aren't for boats, they sell at 75% less. The full/empty marks on the dipsticks used for the Lehmans ended up not being correct as the engine is generally mounted at a slant. Another reason for buying a generic Ford dipstick, adding the correct amount of oil, and making your own marks.

With new filter and dry sump, add 12 quarts of oil, run engine to circulate oil, check oil lever a few minutes after shutdown. THAT is the correct level. Any dipstick will do if you are starting out dry.

Yep, measure the tube diameter and go to a car junkyard and get a stick that fits the same dia tube. Take it to the boat and cut extra tip length off til appropriate. Mark stick with sump level full, low mark say 1" below.

Might cost five bucks.

Good point about the low mark. If you want to establish a "quart-low" mark, and you have a "dry" engine to begin with. Do As I described above with 11 quarts of oil. After marking that level, pour the last quart in and mark that.
