We're heading out the Erie Canal from the Hudson in a couple weeks. We've already done most of it, but the western end will be new to us. We'd like to dock a night or two in Buffalo to catch a baseball game at Sahlen Field.

Does anyone have tips, caveats, or must-sees in the Buffalo/Grand Island area?

Wifey B: Oh what fun it is to make fun of Buffalo, but then what fun it can be. Of course if you haven't been to Niagara Falls, it's a great day trip. But in Buffalo, the attractions are so diverse. You can get history and art from Frank Lloyd White's Martin house or the Theodore Roosevelt site or the Albright-Garden Gallery. You can get your nautical and military at the Naval and Military Park. You can simply enjoy beauty walking around areas like Canalside or Elmwood or the Botannical Gardens. Then single attractions like the game you mentioned or the Pierce Arrow museum or the Buffalo Zoo. I'd give Buffalo 3 days. :D

Sounds great, post some of the photos you took.

You should probably get some good wings while you're there, too. The Anchor Bar is the touristy spot, but the wings were only okay, and the pizza kinda sucked. It's kinda like going to Pat's or Gino's for a Philly Cheesesteak. I recommend Gabriel's Gate. Those were good.
