Expedition Cruiser or charter / Fishing Boat

General purpose GRP Aft Wheelhouse Commercial survey Vessel to Current AMSA 3B and 2B for 6 persons. Valid until 04/2025.
Work just completed includes survey renewals for shafts/ rudders/ and fuel tanks.

There are boats, there are good boats, then there are even better boats, and then there is the NELSON STAR.

The design brief from George Badenach [Boat builder / Commercial fisherman] to Alan Muir Designer [Tasmania] was to draw a working vessel that could still be pulling cray pots in 40 knots on Tasmania's west coast, and then have a shallow enough draft to enter the Duck River at Smithton [over the bar] to unload the catch. Hence the laden draft of 5 ft 4 inches.
After a lifetime of being involved in these types of designs in one way or another, this is without doubt the best built, best engineered, best designed, best prepared, cleanest and most inspiring vessel I have seen.
60 foot and 60 ton, and it burns 14 litres per hour at 8 to 8.5 knots!! Probably sounds too good to be true. It actually burns marginally less, but let's settle on 14 litres per hour @1300 RPM for the moment. That comes from a lifetime of good design, knowledge, and plenty of sea time on behalf of the designer and the builder.

Nelson Star can be inspected in TURN-KEY presentation and operation, currently owned by a professional mariner who has prepared the craft to be able to work in REMOTE locations for long periods, with built-in REDUNDANCY on essential systems.

For those who wish to go in harms way at sea, then you will be very well prepared with this GEM. Nelson Star is the pride of the fleet, It is many things to the experienced boatman, including beautiful to look at, robust, economical, practical, unique, inspiring, extremely capable, tough, masculine, stylish, professional, aesthetically correct but most of all it is just a joy to be on.

The vessel is completely ready to go to sea, to do whatever you wish. Commercial fishing / Inter-Island trading / charter fishing / mother ship / or live fish / long lining or drop lining [24000 litres wet well, or cargo hold plus 8 cubic metres of freezer room]. It can be your own personal expedition vessel, or maybe you would just like to do some out-of-the-way cruising. The boat has already proven itself in some tough and hostile waters.

With 7,600 litres of fuel Nelson Star has a range of over 4,000 N M with reserve, and 7,000 litres of fresh water. The inclination test and resulting righting moment goes all the way to 70 degrees of positive buoyancy, and it will still self right. That's just good design knowledge.

The wheel steering is power assisted hydraulic with built in redundancy with 24 volt manual back up, plus a Vetus Joy stick.
Nelson Star has just been antifouled with Jotun Sea Quantum Ultra S commercial 5 year system.
Nelson Star is also fitted with a port side Stabilising wing, to stabilise the boat at rest and under way [Simple Functional easy].

A lot of effort and thought has been put into improving the boat's ventilation (including upgraded engine room ventilation and crew comfort) - taking it from working in the cold Tasmanian latitudes - to be able to operate in a tropical environment.

There is a complete set of operational manuals, ships documents, a full set of AMSA stamped and approved drawings, and everything but everything has been documented.

The boat also comes with a current out of water survey that states the vessel is in excellent condition. This report is available by request, and also a detailed list of everything that was completed and upgraded during this refit.

Remarks
Nelson Star is presented in as new condition, with an amazing amount of detail and diligence carried out by the current owner to get it into genuine Bristol fashion.
A professional mariner that I know and trust was part of the crew when the boat was travelling west to east through Bass Strait. The sea was well and truly up and the current was against the breeze. The conditions were not exactly good fun. The crew member remarked to the skipper, "I have been on boats 3 times the size of this one, and this one is handling it better than any of them". Prior to this Nelson Star worked Tasmania's west coast for 6 years. That also certainly gives it validation as a capable sea boat.
This vessel will most probably appeal to a pro fisherman, charter, or commercial operator. However with its amazing economy and long range ability it would also be very suitable to the Offshore motor boatman / private owner.

If you come for an inspection, it is important that you come with respect for a job well done, then a respectful and detailed hand over will happen.
The GST is applicable to all buyers, both private and commercial
