Is there any connection between Roughwater and Pacemaker ? Our family boat when I was a kid was a wooden Pacemaker 36 and I see a resemblence. I know there were some incestuous relationships between builders as designers changed companies and corporate mergers shifted things around. I was just curious.
I don't think there is a direct connection. David Martin designed the Pacemakers and the Roughwater was a Ed Monk Design. For the 37 and 36 SPF Roughwater hired Ed Monk Jr. to update the design. I think that the similarity is that a lot of builders kinda copied the high, well flared bow of west coast work boats hence the Pacemeker but Roughwater wanted to compete with the faster easy coast Sportfisher so I think they borrowed some east coast design ideas for the Roughwater sportfishers, the 36 and 37.
Most Roughwater boats are full displacement tricabins. The 36, 37, and some 41s had the semi displacement planning hull and options for higher power engines.
