Canada Border Covid-19 Requirements Ending?

The latest news indicates that Canadian government sources have confirmed that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has agreed to let a cabinet order, that mandates Covid-19 vaccination requirements to cross the Canadian border, expire at the end of September 2022. The cabinet order that requires international travelers to be vaccinated against Covid-19 was put in place a year ago and subsequently renewed about every three months. The latest version of the order will expire September 30 and is expected not to be renewed.

The expired order would also end random Covid-19 testing for those who are vaccinated, and mandatory testing for unvaccinated international travelers. Letting the order expire would eliminate the mandatory component of the ArriveCAN app.

The ArriveCAN app was created by Canada’s Public Health Agency for travelers to provide vaccination and travel information. The app has since morphed into a digitized border arrival tool for Customs and Immigration as an alternative to using the paper version. With the anticipated Covid-19 cabinet order expiring on September 30, ArriveCAN app may become an optional tool instead of a mandatory tool.

The Canadian federal government is still deciding whether to maintain the requirement for passengers to wear face masks on trains and airplanes, which is not contained in the same cabinet order. This particular mask mandate order was given by the Minister of Transport.

CBSA UPDATE!

Starting Oct 1, travellers will no longer have to submit their health information in ArriveCAN but the app will stay on as an optional tool for those who want to save time at the airport by using Advance CBSA Declaration.
Early data shows that using Advance Declaration to submit your customs and immigration information in advance cuts the amount of time a traveller spends at a kiosk or eGate by roughly one third, and over 30% of travellers arriving at participating airports are already using it.
The CBSA will continue to modernize the border and facilitate travel into Canada by offering more optional self-service tools.

It is almost too funny that anyone will voluntarily use the arriveCan app. We crossed over several weeks ago and sat on the bridge for over 2+ hours. In my opinion this invasive app had nothing to do with covid and everything to do with tracking people. Good riddance I say. We also just found out first hand how well the app works when your out on the water in a remote area. ie: it doesn't. We were constantly having to revise it due to bad weather and it was a headache as we did not have internet and our cell phone coverage was hit and miss. The end result was a lot of time wasted and much stress.

Regarding ArriveCan, your posted experience certainly doesn't jibe with our recent personal experience of using the ArriveCan app. We used it entering Canada at Sidney, BC from WA State, and again entering Canada at Prince Rupert, BC, from Alaska. Worked as advertised, and we were on our way quickly and with no hiccups. :dance:
Seems you have more of an issue with bad weather, poor internet, and bad phone service. Perhaps there was a countervailing reason that you had a less than optimum experience?!?:whistling:
