I was traveling this week but the electrical install is underway

I asked for side scan on the sounder but had no idea the transducers were so big. Might add a bit to the fuel burn.

Some planning around how the davit system will work in practice.

Some questions about your side scan transducer mounting:
1: is there any chance of interference on your side signal from the keel, or did you calculate clearances?
2: is it mounted in your lazarette space with a watertight bulkhead?

The thought of catastrophic failure upon hitting an object is scary. I’ve even considered mounting such a large unit off the transom like a fishing boat, for that reason.

Perhaps have a small ice horn welded in front of it for a degree of protection.

There are two transducers because of the keel placement. The signal should be fine.

It's in the engine bay.
That far back from the bow and given the proximity of the keel it is unlikely to ever get a direct hit from debris. Anything is possible I guess.
There were limited options for placement given the built in fuel tanks and the need for room for travel lift strops etc.

The interior is in disarray with wiring at present so a couple of exterior shots.
Windows are all installed.

That's a wrap.
Way darker than on the sample patch offered. It will be interesting when out in the sunlight.
I quite like it.

There was some issue with the 120A alternators so they have been upgraded to 160A. I hope the bracket is strong enough.

Wow. Looks great. I really like the hull color.

The 160A are for the Lithium house bank.
The 80A you can see are the standard Yanmar for the start batteries.
I did visit this week to check progress but the boat was all masked to spray non skid on the roof and foredeck. Not much to see.

...

Is that a 12v or 24v alternator?

Is the 160AH alternator mounted with its own dedicated serpentine belt? Seems like a good setup if one has the space since it minimizes engine heat affecting the alternator.

Later,
Dan

12v and yes dedicated serpentine.

The name and graphic added.
Interested to hear the comments.

This will be exquisite to see on the water. I am truly impressed.

Engines installed hopefully for the last time.

Trim going in around the helm area

Non skid paint applied, just the antenna mast to add to the roof.

Wow, this is getting exciting! I have been following this thread and build with admiration. That is going to be one fine machine and a looker to boot!

Getting close now.
Motors in and props on.
Have to say the props look a bit aggressive but time will tell.

Galley in place.

Helm area ready for the instruments and displays.

Scheduled launch day is next Thursday. Still plenty to do on the interior.
Anti foul applied which shows good intent.

Prop speed on and rudders installed.

The props have serious pitch, as you've noted. I will mark Thursday on my calendar (we're in the same time zone) and I will be sending good vibes your way!

Best wishes, KL

We launched after a few delays.
Craning on to the trailer was the most nerve wracking part of the whole build process.
Unfortunately the port shaft seals must have been damaged on install so after a brief run down the harbour we had to lift out again. Not a lot of water coming in but too much to leave on a marina.
Of course it is a long weekend down here for Matariki so no replacement available until Monday.......
Early impressions underway were very favourable.

The tension is palpable! Good luck with the shaft seal. Ahi is one good-looking vessel, for sure.

The shaft seal was a faulty manufacture, no stainless spring present at all.
All fixed quickly but the builder decided to carry on working on the hardstand for the week.
Should be floating again this week.

Initial sea trials seem promising but too much pitch on the props as suspected. Ahi will get lifted tomorrow to correct that.

She pulls quite a stern wave at 10 to 13kn but settles nicely at 16 to 20kn. 25kn is the max so far at 3300rpm. Not sure if that will increase with less pitch/more revs.

Ahi like to run straight, no surprises with two long skinny hulls and the keels. Rudder only turns need quite a bit of space. She will spin on the motors but needs a few revs to do so.

darkside, I love this vessel. If I do come to NZ, I will definitely look you and the yard up—this is an exquisite construction.

If you did get 25kn at 3,300, maybe the pitch is perfect? My boat makes a bit of a wake at 12–13kn, too, before setting on plane at 3,250, around 15–16kn. Most of the time we like to run at 9–10kn, hardly any wake, at 2,250—just a fast idle, really.

Congratulations.
