Wanted - Manual Windlass

Just want to tell you that i used to have a manual windlass on my boat and i change it for an electric.

Just imagine yourself (alone on your boat) with an all chain anchor in 30 feet of water, with 20 knots of wind and you have to go. In this case ,with a manual windlass you have to pull at least 150' of chain wich will be very hard to do....because of the wind on the boat and the weight of the chain plus anchor.

So if i were you , i will think about it....

RE: Wanted - Manual Windlass

When I'm looking for hard to find items I use Google Alerts.* It will monitor the web for you constantly until you turn it off.* I've been able to find a SL SeaTiger 555 manual windlass and a very rare GPS/Autopilot interface box this way.*

It may still take a while until somebody, somewhere in the world posts the item you're looking for, but eventually just about everything turns up.

Wanted - Manual Windlass

PEDucks,

I have a W30 and use this electric winch. It is quite small and only $425. I only have about 12' of chain and an 18lb anchor so just hand pulling the last bit of rode is easy. The 1st 3' of chain is 1/2", then 4' of 3/8ths and the rest 5/16th. The rest of my rode is 5/8ths nylon "Brait". I'll PM my phone #.

Here's another Alaskan Willard at the other extreme.
