Looking for a Simrad AP16 head unit

The Simrad technician tells me the video card in my AP16 display went out because of corrosion on the board. After some research, that is plausible and the easiest path is to buy another one. If I find one, then I believe my autopilot system will be back to fully operational. Anyone have one to sell me?

The other possibility is that I scrap the old AP16 system and upgrade to the current AP44 and keep only my hydraulic motor. Am I chasing a losing battle by replacing the failed AP16?

Hard to say whether it's a loosing battle. I'm currently running an AP 20 system and happy with it. Ebay is a good place to look for used displays. I would ask the technician what other displays are compatible with your main box. Don't quote me on this, but I think the AP 10, AP 16, AP 20, and the AP 21 remote were all compatible with your main box. You might not find an AP 16, but another one might work equally well.

i had my ap16 screen fail 5 years ago. pilot was not that old. i could not find that display anywhere and simrad don't carry spare parts for too long.

i had good experience with my Furuno products and just went to a Furuno AP as well. your pump will work with any AP.

Seawire Marine in Miami tells me that only the AP16, AP25, and AP26 are compatible with the AC20 based system. The AP16 has a much bigger display than the AP26 and the AP25 would require some woodwork to fit into my helm. Not sure what advantage those newer versions offer. They all come up on eBay fairly regularly for $800 or so.

Ebay did have one, minus the corners for a boat buck! But there’s also a set of used corners on Ebay.
