Fairchild Scout 30 Motor Sailer

1981 Scout Fairchild Fiberglass Raised Deck Cruiser Classic Featured in Nautical Quarterly volume 8 Book onboard and available to new owner.

Hull Number 12 of 13 (ALL FIBREGLASS) Scout 30s built in the late 1970's and early 1980's by Fairchild Yachts in San Diego and one of only 3 built and designed in a motor sailer configuration.

She was designed by noted powerboat designer Ben Ostend. The Scout 30 was designed to evoke the grace of an earlier time. Generally speaking, some of the most beautiful pleasure craft of all times were designed and built during the period between the first World War and the great depression. That particular era was one in which the entire approach to yachting was on a level of affluence, elegance and grace. In most cases the yachts of the 20's reflected that ideal amalgam of charm and function that typifies enduring designs in any field. The reproduction of this twenties design has resulted in a motor yacht that can be defined as the "ultimate statement in refined elegance.

The Scout 30 is elegant, comfortable and simple- pure and simple. The Hull and Deck are Fiberglass. All fittings are brass or bronze and she will cruise for 1000 miles at 6 knots, consuming well under a gallon of diesel fuel per hour. Cruise 6.5 knots Max 8.0 Knots. Her Perkins 4108 turns a such a modest RPM that she is almost silent running either from the cockpit of the saloon.

There are about 50 examples of this yacht in North America and as one of the first owners of the Scout 30 said, "We must have one of these - we feel that something like this belongs in our family, it will be an heirloom" Solid Fibreglass Hull. Balsa Cored Deck

Built by Fairchild Yachts in San Diego 1981 Sloop Rigged - aluminum spar - awlgrip LP paint. Sails in excellent condition.

USCG Documented All External wood is Mahogany & Teak. 12 Coats Epafanes and Flagship Varnish 2019 The boat is in magnificent condition in every respect, mechanically and cosmetically.

That is a beautiful boat! Best success in selling her. Seems like a very attractive price.

Hope she finds the right next owner. Deserves a nostalgic at heart

Love the Scout.
Just a note though the little Perky is 36hp. The 4-107/108 makes 50hp in taxi-cab tune at 4000rpm. In all marine applications I’ve known the Perkys do 36hp at 3000rpm.

I agree with the 36hp at 3000 rpm. However I am only citing in the my above ad that which is stated in the Perkins Manual 4-108(M) Marine Diesel Design Features with Standard Equioment "PERKINS 4.108 MARINE DIESEL ENGINE - GENERAL DATA. Engine Type: In- line 4-cylinder diesel, 4 cycle. Maximum Horsepower: 51 @ 4000 RPM." This General Data may indeed be optimistic, however, I feel it best to quote the engine hp ratings as stated by Perkins.

Great boat! I visited this boat prior to purchasing mine. If not for bridges on my lake she would have been mine. Love the old radio and brass features like spotlight. Gorgeous setting at the San Diego Yacht club.

We have been anchored and moored next to this vessel several times over the past few years. It’s as nice as shown in the pictures from what I can see from the outside when swimming and driving the Dinghy around it.

OP, Good luck with your sale. Are you also leaving your mooring in 4th July cove? Never met you in person, just see you around a lot at Catalina and MB.

Such a beautiful boat with classic lines. How does a hull design of that type handle seas; beam, following, head etc. $50,000, how that be?
