TANGIER was built in Auckland (New Zeeland) in1973 and bought by Mr GUEGUEN in Genoa (Italy) in 1975. He bought her after the owner and his family sails from Auckland to Genoa where they were not able to continue their navigation all together.
The interior was then given a more modern look in term of decoration in a shipyard in Palma De Mallorca.
TANGIER was registered in Auckland at that time.
I have so good memories of my stay on TANGIER and particularly the feeling of security when navigating on her, something like "nothing can happened".
I was 23 years old at that time and I will be really happy to see her back to life.
To long-cours.62 : you will find attached the 4 pages of the leaflet done by Mr Gueguen before leaving Marbella to the Caribbean where he intended to charter her. I have also one snap showing Mr Gueguen sitting in the saloon.
I hope you will enjoy these informations .

I have the same one on board, because Mr Gueguen wanted to made some charter but finally he decide to don't do that.
If the actual owner could make some photo from inside, bilge, engine room, chain locker, lazaret, tanks, mast rigging etc... they will be welcomed :-)
Because after near 40 year and may be 20 years without maintenance ...

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. Don't know how to get you some pictures, as the owner of Tangier has no internet on the boat, is a older gentleman.Thank you for sending the U-tube.
The price of 200K US is a fair price, he had paid 500K for the boat many years ago, when the dollar had a lot more value. Of course it needs an overhaul. The Gardner engine alone is worth a lot, they don't build them anymore, are so efficient.
Thank you for your interest.

The purpose of my registration to the forum (as I have explain on my first post)
was to be able to post information about the "TANGIER" and particularly the brochure who is full of valuable real informations. I still have some more snaps of the boat and Mr Gueguen sitting in the "carre" where in the background can be seen the plywood paneling covered in cream skaï (imitation leather) surrounding the windows.(can be added on the thread)
I am still in touch today with Mr GUEGUEN family and maybe be able to get some more information if their memory can do it (that was 47 years ago)
Mr Gueguen , before buying TANGIER, was the owner of a company named CGTI . This company was involved in the International Telecommunications explaining why "TANGIER" was well fitted with communications equipment as well facsimile méteo (forecast)
Saying that, you will not see me around but I will love to know the future of "TANGIER" and I hope I will be kept posted about his were about.( long.cours.62 & OrcasIsland) Thanks in advance and bye for now.

As a neighbor and friend of the owner of Tangier, it has been fascinating to read about the boat's rich history in this forum. It is understandable why our friend is so passionate about his boat. Unfortunately, changes in circumstances in his life have meant he has not fulfilled his dream to restore the boat to its former glory. The boat is for sale, and will soon have to leave its current 'dry harbor'. The marina has been sold and the new owners will no longer allow the boat to be stored there while it is being worked on. If you happen to be near the Georgetown Yacht Basin in Maryland, before the end of April, stop by and shoot the breeze with Tom. You'll find him there, working and he loves to talk about his boat.

As you say , she is still alive !!
I am happy to see her again as she was supposed to be move from the marina where she is stored.
My dream of having her restored (rebuilt) is based on myself becoming rich in a near future and her not to be scrapped before that
So my dream is still alive...
Anyway, Is there any news regarding her future ?

Just happened to review this thread again, and I'm totally confused about what the price is...
"he is selling it for $ 2000.000.00"
"he thinking put her for sale in the range of 2.000.000 French Francs around 300000€"
So from what I can figure, he is asking either two thousand dollars, two million dollars, or three hundred twenty six thousand dollars.
What do you guys think he should list it for???

If you read carefully the 2000000 french franc was in 1984/85 no more FF since 20 year ago :-)
Concerning the actual value... Only People with verry confortable vallet coulb be interrested, not for tve actual value of Tangier but for the cost to rebuilt her !
Or dreamer who let her on hard stand for year.
Near forty year ago the Black water tank had already some trouble, In engine room we can't s'en and clean the bilge (front of the engine) because fill un with ballast.Engine don't rue during décade, the steel mast could be balle rusty (one part of the mezzanine one must replace before 10 year old, condition now ?) A Nice refurbishment was donc in Amel boatyard some here between 1985 to 1994 but since that bad story.
The cost to rebuilt her, the actual value ? A 42m teel schooner with ago the schooner "Blue Clipper"was sold for 250000€ in good condition.
The actual owner ask for 200k$ he will get this amount only if à rich People fall in love with Tangier: l'amour est aveugle
