What should my expectations be when registereing with coast guard

Hello
Looking online it shows they have received my paperwork aug 3rd and it shows initial application by mail . I am wondering how the steps work. Will the website show a different status or will i just get something in the mail. Has anyone done this recently and how did it go?

Have not done it recently but it does take quite a while. I called the NVDC and they gave me a guesstimate of when it would be done.

Last year it took the CG five months for my documentation paperwork so I would not be surprised if it took a similar time this year as well.

Go to this link, and then go to the bottom of the page and click on 'As of October 02 2020' and that takes you to a bulletin that tells you what dates they are processing currently. For all recreational the are processing items that were received August 17. So they are couple of months behind. They update the link on some schedule, once your received date shows up on that bulletin, you can expect to receive a response within a week or two.

When i check on the paperwork i see two records on my hull number. One states received by mail, work item type= initial application received sept 3rd.
The second file says the same thing but states the date received Aug 3rd.
