yanmar survey - Diagnostic tools required
Having difficulty finding certified Yanmar dealer to do survey on Long Island NY prior to a used boat purchase . My current diesel mechanic is very good and available but does not have the diagnostic tools for Yanmar. Looking to buy tools/software for complete engine diagnostics for his use and to kkep in my inventory. What is required (part numbers) and where can I purchase?
Thanks

I suspect you will find you have to get the program from Yanmar. Unlike automobiles the market may not be big enough so not worthwhile for others to write a program that will read a Yanmar engine.
Could be wrong but??
It would help though if you actually said which engine is involved and the year to increase your odds. Like other mfgs. programs, things change.

All the Brewer yards are Yanmar certified facilities.

I presume that this is a newer, electronic engine. These collect load, rpm, fuel burn figures, etc. that would be helpful to know, but not essential. Mechanics have been evaluating diesels for more than a hundred years without electronic help.
So, I think that if your existing mechanic is a smart guy, he can do fine evaluating this engine and won't need electronic help.

Definitely an all mechanical engine. No special tools required.
Great engine, BTW. A modern classic.
Plan on spending some money, after you purchase the boat on a complete raw water system service. Remove, disassemble, clean, grease, reassemble and pressure test the after coolers. Then if no leaks are evident, you can acid flush the system with Rydlyme, Barnacle Buster, etc.
Consider setting up fresh water flush connections which will let you keep the raw water system in good shape: 5+ years between after cooler servicing vs 2-3 years.
Get it propped right, so as to reach 3,400 phototached rpm at wot and cruise at less than 3,000 rpm.
