Transmission delay

I have a 1982 Cheerman PT41. A few months ago I had to pull the transmission and the reduction gear because of a failure in the reduction gear. I had the gear rebuilt and reinstalled it. The unit works fine except when I put it into reverse there is a 6 second delay before it engages. Oil level is good.
The unit is a Borg Warner Velvet Drive 2:1
Any ideas?

Six seconds is way too long. Something is wrong with the rebuild. Talk to whomever did the rebuild. Chances are the gear is going to come out again to be opened up.
