Does anyone know if the ‘77 MerCruiser 454 with the Thunderbolt ignition has points and a condenser? I don’t see any listed on a parts diagram.
We always used to change points, plugs, condenser, and cap all at the same time on our cars. I’m not very familiar with the Thunderbolt ignition.

Thunderbolt was generally Mercruiser's name for electronic ignition systems. 1977 is older than the Thunderbolt IV system I'm familiar with, but it's almost certainly electronic (no points / condenser).

Actually, one more question. So on this system, besides the cap and rotor what else should be replaced? Not counting plugs.

Cap, rotor, plugs, and wires should be the only maintenance parts. On an electronic ignition everything else stays unless something fails.
