Shifting cable question

I have a kobelt single lever system with one remote station. Mine is setup where the pilothouse control operates the transmission and throttle. The remote station has 2 cables linking it to the primary. So, which ever way you move the level, one or the other cable is pulling. The cables are around 50' long. I would be happier if it was easier.

In the process of working on my hydraulic steering, I have cut numerous tie wraps loose. While they were snug, they didn't deflect the relatively straight cable path. The control now seems easier to move.

Does the outer housing of these cables need freedom of movement or doesn't it matter?

I'm tired of fast moves, I've got a slow groove, on my mind.....
I want to spend some time, Not come and go in a heated rush.....

No the outer housing doesn't need to move. Bends, especially sharp ones, make cable movement more difficult. The longer the cable the more friction to overcome.

Kobelt has a system where the actual cable controller is in the engineroom, and the other controls are connected electrically. That way you have very short cable runs.
