Replacing the impeller on a Yanmar 6LPA-STP

I’m planning to change the impeller on the Yanmar 6LPA-STP in my 2003 Mainship II Pilot. Before I begin to remove the cover plate and take apart the housing I was hoping someone here on the forum that is familiar with this can help me. I am able to squeeze through the small hatch in the cabin to access the housing so I took some pictures. I have noticed that the impeller cover plate that needs to be removed is very close to the engine mount and may not permit me to pull out the impeller without removing the whole housing. Is this true? I also haven’t purchased an impeller and gasket yet, I assume I’ll need to replace the cover plate gasket as well as the housing gasket (if the housing needs to be removed). Since this is new to me could I get some advice on the best approach to tackle this as well as where online would be the best place to purchase these items? Can these items be purchased as a kit?

Remove the whole pump and change out impeller on the bench.

Speedseal covers are great. I use a tool from imperrertool.com to insert the new impeller. No affiliation just a happy customer.

I think there is enough room there, it is just going to be very large PITA to do it.

I not sure for your 6lp impeller, but for my 6lya I use this tool - JS-09-47163-01 -Johnson impeller puller. Basically screws onto the threaded end of the impeller, then a bolt in the center is tightened to extract the impeller. I added a longer bolt to mine. Makes extraction a piece of cake.
For replacement I just get the impeller seated on the splines as far as possible by hand then put impeller tool back on and tap the impeller into place, remove the tool, put on a new o-ring, cover on and done.

I gave one of the tools like helm posted. Haven't used it but getting ready to do mine on a Yan 6LYA. Glad to hear they work.
For replacement I bought a piston ring compressor. Haven't used that yet but I have loaned it to others rhat report it helped w the install.
