Time to pull the turbo off my 1985 Perkins Range 4, 200.
Question please. Will pulling the turbo coolant drain plug drain enough coolant to allow removal, or, do I need to drain the entire cooling system?
Thank you!

Never mind, I misread a partial manual a friend sent. There IS no coolant drain on the turbo. Must drain the coolant.

Gold,
Are you sure this is a good idea? I don't know much about turbo's but I suspect there's much more to it than just taking it off. Changing the injection timing or valve timing may not be needed but it may. Hopefully Ski or some other more knowledgeable person will comment.

Nope, just coming off and installing another good (same PN) unit from another boat. If I were adapting a larger displacement turbo, or smaller, or removing the turbos altogether, then yes, it would require fuel changes, probably just injectors. As is, just an R&R.
Thanks.

Perkins Range 4-200 owners who have had to remove a turbo for repair/overhaul: Is it necessary to drain the turbo after the cooling system has been drained?
I cannot remove the drain or even the fill, for that matter.
