I am looking at several MS 350/390.
They don't have sea water strainers on the main engine.
What is up with that?
Cat 3116 or twin Volvo's.

Basically a pretty good screen on the outside.
A internal strianer was a $750 option new.

Interesting, I will soon be removing the strainers from our mains and from both gensets and replacing them with Southbay Strainers. These have an opening hatch that allows a diver to remove any marine growth. Given the size of them it will open up a lot of space in the engine rooms and generator compartment.

And when there isn't a diver available?
It's much of an issue on the mains, because when they are on, the boat is usually moving. Gensets and AC pumps, not necessarily.

I’d love to have those external strainers, but I’d keep the Grocos for a second line of defense.
