Uniflite 42 Double Cabin
Hey Guys,

I have a 42' Uniflite DC 1980 with twin 454's. Without going into all the gory details I'm in the process of replacing the camshaft on the port motor among other things.

My current problem is the harmonic balancer won't come off. The bolt on the crankshaft came off without a hitch. I am using the Maddox balancer remover/installer. I have it installed according to the instructions. I am using a 14" breaker bar/ratchet. It is extremely difficult to turn the "bolt" on the end of the balancer tool. I am concerned about using too much force but the damn thing just will not budge. Suggestions?

An impact wrench will probably just gall the puller threads. Go to home Depo and buy a MAP Gas torch. With the puller tight, put heat to the pulley around the crank shaft. It will eventually pop off.

Don’t confuse propane for MAP Gas. Propane is not nearly as hot as MAP Gas

Is it unusual for these things to be this tight?
