DD 6V92TA won’t start

The most important question is,, did the previous owner also run this engine backwards?? >>>Dan ( He may know something you don't.)
It was the OP who switched starters and tried starting the engine the wrong direction.

We agree..>>>D ( My question still stands.)( Hopefully the PO did not try the same stunt.)

We tried to start it about 8 times for about 5-10 seconds…. OP ?

DD 6V92 won’t start

PO had correct but failed starter on the engine

The part of the story that would concern me would be the "sitting for 5 tears or more",, that tells me very little or no residual oil would be present on the bearings,, and none while cranking and the eventual running periods.. Lots of luck, >>>Dan ( An old old DD mechanic.)

Tx again Dan, I hope for the best and will let you know in a few weeks? Andre

Interesting, the 1984 Hatteras on our dock has DDV92's and it definitely DOES have the shut-down flappers . . . I suppose they could have been added after market, but I highly doubt it. . . . And a tripped flapper was the reason the new owner couldn't get the left engine started, until it was reset . . .

I have 6v92's and they have the shut down flaps as well. Referenced directly in the service manual as well. These are 6v92TA engines in a 1997 Nordlund.

Hello everyone,

Just a quick update: finally got some DD specialists at the boat. Right engine with the high (1500) rpm in idle had one stuck Injector. According to the mechanic that causes the higher rpm.

Left engine (got the startermotor repaired, so I got the correct starters on the correct engines now…): Before we were gonna try the left engine, the DD guys checked the engine first and found 4 stuck Injectors. Also the flapper valve wouldn’t completely open in the locked/open position.

In a few weeks they’ll take out the 5 stuck injectors, clean them and install them again, run the rack and repair the flapper valve. Hopefully I’ll be on my way shortly after that…

I’ll keep you posted, Andre

Hey everyone,

Finally got the new injectors in and had them installed. Also had the flapper valve restored and installed on the port engine. Guys subsequently ran the racks on both engines. Both engines start immediately when I touch the starter, run smooth as silk and without any smoke. Thank you so much for all the advice and help. Much appreciated. Great forum, great folks??.

Andre, the Netherlands.
