Has anyone put a second alternator on a Cummins QSB 6.7?

I've done it on their C series engine and my John Deere. For the B and the C engines, Cummins offered a bolt on (to the front of the crank shaft) 2 or 3 groove pulley. This is for accessory items such as water and hydraulic pumps.

I chose to use a serpentine pulley with an adapter plate between the main pulley and the auxiliary pulley.

I found it easiest to remove the fan belt guard and fabricate the alternator bracket to the front engine mount.

If you go to my profile page on the forum, there is a picture album with the second alternator configuration.

Asking this question again hoping someone has direct experience adding a second alternator to a Cummins QSB 6.7.

Contact Seaboard Marine. They are the go to Cummins marine specialists. Have you determined the amp and voltage output. From this comes the alternator frame size, regulator, sheaves and belt setup.

SBMAR has a good forum for Cummins specific questions and Tony from Seaboard often responds but less so these days as I believe he is semi retired. You could ask the same question there and may get some feedback.

YMMV - but I found Cummins very good at answering my questions on my engine. I would start with them - they may be able to tell you the pros and cons.

800-cummins for help. They have been very good supporting my 6CTAs. But Tony Athens is also an excellent source. Also boatdiesel.com. I think it is $25 for a year’s membership.
