I've just had a minor weld repair done to a 3 1/2" od x 4' dry riser pipe. Fabricator is asking if I want the pipe 'ceramic coated' before I take it back. I know nothing about this...is there a benefit from this process (cosmetic benefit irrelevant...pipe will be under a wrap)

Waste of money unless you wish to display to everyone how expensive it was!

I'm particularly interested in whether it has any heat radiation effect....not interested in appearance and I don't think I need an anti-corrosion effect on the pipe itself (maybe at the flanges would be useful). Looks like there are two distinct schools of thought on the ceramic coating option?? It is not expensive: around $130. Of course if it has no benefit at all, that IS expensive!

Thick insulation slows heat more than thin.

How thick is the ceramic coating?
