185HP Perkins Range 4 Recommended Maintenance

Narrowing our search down & seriously looking at a boat with twin 185 HP Perkins Range 4 engines - all 1700 hours are freshwater.

Some questions:

Anybody have a link to the maintenance manual for these engines ?

How reliable are they ?

Best online source for repair parts (Gulf or SE Coast) ?

Any general advice ?

Thanks

The Range 4, 185 hp Perkins is a newer version of the 165 hp Perkins that was delivered with the venerable Mainship 34. It is a solid engine with no real vices. 1,700 hours is nothing if they have been operated and maintained well.

Trans Atlantic Diesel is your best source for parts.

You might find manuals at boatdiesel.com's pdf library, but you will have to join for $25, the best money you spend on a diesel.

Base engine is solid but the coolers are extremely expensive to replace if you can find them.
So make sure you concentrate on checking them out.
