Boat storage Door County Wi

Thinking about taking my 42ft trawler to the Great Lakes by water.
Ideal situation is to leave it there for a few years, spend summers there and back home to Florida for the winter.

Question:
What do most of you northerners do for storage?
Inside? Heated?
Outside? Shrink wrap?

I’m having sticker shock at the per sq ft $ for inside storage.
Worried about outside storage with the snow and cold weather.
Spoiled because it now stays docked behind my house in Florida for $0.00
Door county would be my central location but anywhere nearby would be OK
Thought and suggestions appreciated.

Most trawlers and larger recreational boats are kept indoors in heated storage around the Great Lakes. For a 42' boat, storage should be around $4500-5000 for 7 months which includes haul out and spring launch. To ensure storage availability, make your reservations early as possible.

Caveat - this was based on experience in Michigan about 3 years ago and a 38' trawler.

Rates up there must be quoted on a seasonal basis. Looked on some websites.

You don’t worry about power outage heat failure etc. IE: no winterizationof engines etc?

Mine has a no freeze guarantee as well as insurance. The owners number two guy also stores there and does nothing. They have redundant back up systems as to the other big guys. Waiting lists for some of them so I guess it shows as well. I leave a min/max thermometer onboard and last year it showed mid 40s (we had weeks of excessive cold), year before low 50s.

Also, there are some other options that can add to your cost such as having them put a trickle charge on the batteries. This charge minor. Power washing the bottom before storage was a $100 or so dollars.

Skipper Bud’s Quarter Deck, Center Point, and Bay Marine have inside heated storage. There’s also a facility across the Bay in either Marinette or Menominee. More in Kewaunee south of Sturgeon Bay. Roughly $7 per square foot including pulpit and swim platform...they will measure. Lots of boats from Chicago and other southern locations have moved north in recent years. Door county is now over crowded and has become Wisconsin’ s very own Niagra Falls style tourist trap. Sad.

If you like rural settings, you might want to consider Onekama Marine on Portage Lake. It is a little north of Manistee MI. There is also Seng's Marina in Manistee. We kept trawler at Onelama.
