Anchorages in Destin?

We are heading out Sunday on the boat (finally). Our friends are going with us on their boat. We plan to anchor in Big Lagoon for a few days and just play everything by ear. But I’m wondering if there are any good anchorages closer to Destin. We have another friend who will be trailering his 21ft Whaler so we will have a runabout. I’d really like to go to crab island just to say we did.

I’ve tried searching but not finding anything.

Take a look at Active Captain. I see two ancorages inside of Destin Harbor and two inside of Joes Bayou. I see two off of Crab Island. One in Baclava bay.

Hey Stars! Crab Island is mostly a daytime anchorage with little to no protection from any strong prevailing winds. Anchor in Old Lagoon for the evening then motor out to Crab Island in the morning. If you have that runabout handy you have beaucoup restaurants/bars all along the North shore (AJs will keep ya entertained all night). Just around the corner is Baytowne marina in Sand Destin. First class marina with a bunch of land base attractions. Also we have anchored for the evening in Hogtown bay, protected all around except from NW winds. You guys gonna go scalloping? Have fun!
