Hello everyone,

Although we don't run a trawler, we do run our 1967 Chris Craft Constellation at trawler speeds most of the time. We've owned and cared for this boat for 30 years, and have used it mostly on Georgian Bay, Lake Huron's North Channel and Lake Simcoe.

We have also spent time in the lovely Thousand Islands, and have traveled up to Ottawa then Montreal, Lake Champlain, the Erie Canal and sundry points between.

We are now planning to run the boat south this fall, likely as far as the Carolinas before putting it up for the winter.

We have found this site very informative and entertaining, and will soon be posting a new thread seeking advice on routes and how to prepare our boat and ourselves for this new adventure.

We look forward to meeting like-minded cruising folks and continuing to enjoy the forum.

All the Best,

Henri Aube, Penetanguishene, Ontario.

Welcome Henri, we are almost neighbours. Keep our boat in Beaverton and we were just up your way a couple weeks back. Enjoy your trip south and let us know on the forum how it's going for you.

Thanks for the welcome, neighbour.

We should be going through Simcoe late next weekend on our first leg to Kingston.

We plan to spend a day in Lagoon City visiting with other old Chris owners.

We'll give a toot if we spot LaBomba!

Hello Henri, we used to keep our boat at Beacon Bay in Penetang and spent years bumming around the Bay & Trent. I miss the white knuckle excitement of sneaking into a secluded anchorage knowing that any contact with the bottom whatsoever is a guarantee of new props, shafts & rudders.

At the moment we are sitting on the Gulf side of Florida but plan to spend our summers in Georgian Bay and winters in Fla via the ICW. Penetang is one of the major migration points for the snowbirds so I'm sure you will have no trouble finding valuable been-there/done-that advice.

With your Chris you should be able to enter/exit the system via Lake Erie. Unfortunately for us, due to our height, we will have to divert to the St.Lawrence- Lake Ontario -Welland Locks.

Have a great trip & keep us posted.

Henri, you will likely see another Great Lakes 33 in Lagoon City called Goose Boots. Looks almost identical to ours. The fellow bought it last fall I believe and moved it up from Lake Ontario. Enjoy!

We have had two boats in our marina take out props and shafts this year. One played with the wrong rock, the other a sunken barge on the charts but not marked. Gets expensive.
