New guy from germany
Hi everybody,
my name is ralph. I am aproaching my 50's, am father of one teenage girl and husband to a very adventurous lady.
We have quite some experience (40 years) in sailing (charter all over europe and caribean), motorboating (parents own 46ft speed boat) and traveling with our own 25ft trailerboat (liveaboard) all over europe.
We are now intensively seeking a new larger "passagemaker" boat and the trawler is one of our favoured designs... but we have many many questions as we have never been on this type of ship before.
I will ask my questions in a new thread.
Looking foreward to exchanging lots of knowledge and experiences in this great forum!
thanks a lot in advance to all trawler skippers!
kind regards
ralph + ilka

Welcome aboard. I see that Liblar it a little bit landlocked other than the Rhine a few miles away. Where would you moor a trawler, and what would be your intended cruising grounds. I understand Europe in general has a good canal system too.

single diesel engine. middle 40ft length, beam someplace between 13-15 feet. Draft about 5 ft. Hyd stabilizers. At least a good strong bow thruster, maybe a stern thruster too. 1000 US gal fuel, 600-800 US gal fresh water and water maker. at least one reliable generator..... 12-15KW, if you have a second generator 6-8KW will do for a back up, if you are careful. Take a week long shake down cruise with a training captain who knows about diesel engines and generators.
Watch and learn from him.

thanks for the warm welcome and the checklist ,-)
please see my other post about the ships in question (voyager forum)
Boat would be moored in north netherlands. waddensee. canals. draft max. 1,50m gives a lot of options.
but want to cross north / baltic sea and a lot. north cape / norway is a destination.
greece also ,-)
hydr. stabilizers are not my budget. looking for 1970-1989 for less than 150k asking price. we are handcrafted enought to work on the boat, if the "bones" are good.
single engine ist good... if available.

I like this couple already - they know how to use the 'Welcome Mat' part of a forum properly.
Welcome indeed to TF, Ralph and Ilka.

Welcome Ralph!
We are practically neighbors. I am in Saint Petersburg, Russia, also looking to spend some time in the Baltic. Let me know if you want to chat.

Ralph and Ilka,
Welcome to the forum. Good luck on your planning and searching for the right boat. Enjoy that process, and take your time, the right boat will come along.
