44' Bruce Roberts steel hull trawler,-?on the TN River in Chattanooga heading to the Gulf in April - any suggestions would e great!

We just moved her from Chickamauga (Erwin Marine) to Island Cove last week. They have the only lift for larger vessels. We just purchased her this fall doing some retrofits and up-grades and hoping to take her to the Gulf in April. We are brand new at this, so learning everyday.

Thank you! We have a home on the Gulf in the Yucatan. We plan on eventually taking her there in a year or two, but first have to sharpen our maritime skills.

Cool! Well, just bring her on down to the Florida Keys, then, which I have always used as the jumping off place for the Yucatan. Of course, I had a sailboat back then, so didn't worry about the weather that much. But even with a trawler, which rolls a lot more (or at least mine does, anyway -- you have a much larger boat), a dash over to Cuba, then west to Cabo San Antonio on the west end of Cuba, wait for a good forecast, and then on over to Isla Mujeres, should be pretty easy. I envy you the trip!

Thank you. That's exactly the route we planned. Our home is about 200 kilometers west of Cancun, near Merida but on the coast in a little coastal pueblo named San Benito. Plan on keeping her at a really nice marina in Progresso. Any concerns or suggestions for Cuba? Can you get clean diesel?

I had no problems. Just ran from Key West to Havana and checked in at Marina Hemingway. Topped off on diesel fuel there. I had a very elaborate fuel filtering system on the sailboat, since I spent a lot of time in Central America, so didn't worry too much about the fuel. But it seemed to be OK. So far as concerns or suggestions, it has been several years since I made that run. I found Cuba to be a really nice place, and the people were great. Definitely a police state though, and so one just has to be circumspect. Obviously you would want to get up-to-date information about the whole thing, of course, if you do that. An alternative is to fuel up in Key West and just make the run to Isla Mujeres from there.

Just had her moved there on Friday. Sanibel pier, slip 12. Met Gooch last week when we were in town and made the change from Erwin. In process up-dating and repairs so looking for all and any advice. Live in Chicago so doing this long distance. Will be there in about two weeks. Look forward to meeting you.

Welcome, That is a fine looking boat! We are planning to head east from Houma, LA the first week in March to mosey on down to Ft Myers/ Sanibel before heading back to arrive back in Houma end of May. Maybe we'll see you out on the water.
