New New Yorker

Hi,
Been reading this forum for years and actually thought I joined up years ago but have now formally joined!

Currently in NYC with a decidedly non-trawler 40 ft italian flybridge cruiser but limited by 270 gallons of fuel and twin volvo 370hp diesels. Originally wanted a trawler but wife wanted something faster/flashier as our first big boat. Now she too is ready for a something that we can do some exploring in.

Semi-retired, youngest in college in Boston. I learned tons and am really inspired from the posts on this forum so I'm hoping to start some real cruising in the fall.

While not the perfect "trawler", your boat and motors should be fine to run slow speed and explore widely.

Thanks for the reply Ski.
After owning this boat for a few years there are 3 things I'd like in a next boat:
- wider decks to get from the aft to the bow, right now only about 10 inches so you are holding onto the rails to get up front for fender work
- a more humanly proportioned engine room. I really don't like to have to contort myself to check or fix things down below
- more range. 270 gallons of diesel doesn't cut it for the distances I dream of. Being able to safely go 600nm would be fantastic

I don't have any need for speed on the water, it's time for relaxing.

Welcome aboard TF

We slowed down a few yrs aga and have never regretted it.
Absolutely agree w/ the wider / safer decks and ER space priorities.
We don't have the need for distance as we are mostly inland cruisers exploring the many NE cruising spots and mini loops.
